World War I Centenary

This month we remember the beginning of World War I.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was murdered in June, armies mobilized in July, and war broke out August 1, 1914, changing the world forever.

Considering how far away it feels to imagine World War I and the year 1914, we appreciate the time-traveling sensation we get when we examine our stamps from that time, and before. The artwork, the engraving details, the perforations, gum, and cancellations from another time, give us a window to the past, right in our hands.
